Hello Fashioncampers,
Sorry for the extended radio silence since our first great planning meeting—it may seem like things have been quiet, but appearances can be deceiving! We met with Parsons on Friday, and they've agreed to host and help out with organizing the event, helping with workshops (supplies! laser cutters!), coffee, and reaching out to speakers and the press. This is a HUGE step for Fashion Camp, and means that despite the short timeline, we're in VERY good shape. We've got a meeting planned at Parsons for 1/28, so mark your calendars! We'll walk through the space, start talking about logistics, and continue to spread the word about FC. In the coming weeks we'll continue to plan specifics, but I wanted to share the good news and outline the next things we have to do:
- Clean up the blog: make it easier to focus on the important stuff and refine our "elevator speech" message.
- Curate our curriculum: reach out to potential speakers, organize tracks where there's interest (e.g. Liza has already volunteered to take charge of the Social Media track), and update our session-voting board at ideas.fashioncamp.org.
- Publicize the event: we'll target 1) the Mainstream community, 2) the Indie / Blogger / Social Media folk, and 3) the Wearable Tech gang. If anyone wants to take charge of bringing our message to any one of these groups it would be great. We'll also want to reach out to educational institutions: Parsons, ITP, FIT, and probably Pratt. (Any others?)
- Find sponsors and engage companies.
- We also may want to reach out to the press (for event coverage) and try to start pitching stories. This may pick up a little more down the road, as will be dealing with logistics and operations.
Please contact me or Bonnie if you'd like to help out with any of this or have any ideas, and we look forward to seeing you all on the 28th!
Best,
j
